SIMON VILLAEYS

SIMON VILLAEYS

Bio

Simon Villaeys was born in Paris, France, to a mother from Martinique, a French ‘ex-colony’, in 1984. He has lived in many countries, namely France, the UK, Brazil, Italy and Portugal. He has travelled to the five continents, including places such as: French Polynesia, Bali, Vietnam, China, the Amazon rainforest, Colombia, the USA, Lebanon, Nothern and Western Africa. His eyes and ears have gathered a lot of information, on the field, about what the Earth looks like and how human beings from different classes, genders, cultures, creeds and races enhabit it.
Simon has graduated in Fine Arts from the Beaux-Arts School of Paris in 2011 in multimedia. He has created in several media: photography, video, interactive audiovisual installation, silkscreen printing and decided to extend his repertoire to performance, drawing, sculpture. He didn’t have the time to create for years and, fortunately, returned to his passion here in Lisbon after a lot of maturation. His work deals with the Truth, which he writes with a larger “v”, hereby encompassing the absolute, objective, factual truth, to dissipate the fog of relativistic, anything goes, liar truth that he senses pushed us into the crisis of the contemporary world.
Simon has collaborated in several projects: a dance piece with a quantum physicist, which did not materialize, in 2012-2013, a web radio, Métachronique, in 2014-2015, and since 2021, has started exhibiting his new work, an ensemble named “Verum Ipsum Factum”.
