Truth, its definition, its very existence and the likelihood of grasping it in today’s world has been in his work early on. Nietzsche demonstrates that all knowledge is but an interpretation of the world and that artists are to “replace” scientists and their “so-called objectiveness” in creating the world we live in. In reaction to this, he thought recreating the world as he would like it to be might help him understand this one better, so he started recreating the universe. Rather than replacing scientists, he sees his creation as a means to unify and inspire scientists and artists in their quests.
Very keen on spirituality, Simon wants to abide by the idea that all we think becomes real. For that purpose, he only makes ideal worlds come true and tries to use only sustainable material. He puts special attention on his planet’s axis, rotation or tidal lock, size – they are all to scale -, hydrometry, and the conditions of life probably reflect those existing in our universe; given its vastness, they could well exist as such.
Verum Ipsum Factum (Giambattista Vico), or “you only know what you have made yourself”, is the title of this body of work and is still in progress. It encapsulates drawings of galaxies, detailed planets in ceramics and photographs from beyond. With his creations, Simon plants the seeds of a new world within us, inviting us to become the cocreators of a positive future.
